Artist Statement

I graduated from Winona State with an art major and a philosophy minor which makes me a bartender.  I joke because I’m also a comedian, really. Like many artists, I began expressing my ideas through visual means when I was young. I explored the familiar topics of angst and insecurity as I passed through puberty and eventually matured to find that humor is what I want to share.

My work highlights the whimsy of nature that expresses the personalities of my subjects.  I want my viewers to look at my paintings and experience a connection with the animals that are looking back at them.  There is a sense of humor exhibited in every piece.

I choose but do not limit myself to oil painting.  It feels natural for me to blend the oil paint on the canvas or paper.  However, I am a firm believer that the topic of each piece of work shall dictate the medium.  Therefore, I also work with pencil, acrylic, watercolor, and digital design.  I am also the creator of a cartoon series called Lindsay Hensel’s Confused? that you can find on Facebook, Instagram, and Kindle Unlimited.

If you would like to purchase any of my paintings, email me at  I’ll be happy to hear from you.
